Vivigani VIV was the primary airfield for Goodenough Island serving government and mission stations. The field was constructed in 1943 by Australian engineers and the RAAF. It served RAAF squadrons flying Beauforts, Beaufighters and Spitfires and occasional squadrons of the 5th Air force. The field was maintained by civilian authorities until 2006 when it was closed to commercial operations. In reality it is now overgrown and deserted.
My depiction is based around early 2000 when the field was operational but seldom used. The adjacent wartime taxiways, hardstands and rivetments are still visible under a heavu growth of kunai grass.
