While standing on a golf course, I sometimes imagine landing a plane on a fairway. Not so much like Harrison Ford's emergency at a local golf course but more like a bush trip adventure. There are lots of trees, narrow approaches, and sand traps! So this is the first of a planned series of reworking some local golf courses with that fantasy in mind.
Having tried landing in the default scenery, it's clear that some work was necessary to clean up the vegetation and put down some airport facilities. A runway is necessary to provide a place to spawn into the simulator, but while playing around with the SDK, why not parking spaces and taxiways? These initial courses are in Southern California, so some palm trees were necessary. We often have coyotes on the course, but I had to substitute a couple of bears on the practice green. (I'll still look for some coyotes and add them in later, maybe). One of my favorite courses has lots of geese, so that would be fun to find. The runway is transparent, and there are no markings or lights. You just have to find your approach, drop down from the trees and stick your landing. I did add some parking spots and the Sim sometimes adds attendants, other planes, and service vehicles.
Finding on the World Map: Just type in "RN" in the search bar, and any courses of mine will be listed. As like RN89. (I may refine more later to restrict the number of airports listed.)
TTD:
- Add some buildings.
- Put up the fence around the driving range.
- Add another runway.
- Improve the look of sandtraps, greens, and tee boxes.
- Add some golf carts to the staging area.
This is an awesome idea, I've always wanted to do the same thing on streets, parking lots, sports fields, etc. that are meaningful to me. Have you thought of writing a tutorial? Or what is the best/most up to date tutorial you could point me to?
