This is a modification to the MSFS 2020 default  Microsoft Curtiss JN-4 Jenny aircraft.  This mod is primarily aimed at improving the overall flight dynamics of this aircraft, providing a more realistic flying experience that is much closer to the actual aircraft.  Several changes have been made to the flight model and the aircraft weight and balance, which are all detailed in the Change Log file included under the Documentation folder.
This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping the download file and copying the mge-microsoft-aircraft-jn4 folder to the MSFS Community folder.  It will then replace the existing default Curtiss JN-4 Jenny aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and will also continue to utilize all existing aircraft Liveries.  To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder.

Tip of the Day: To keep the nose from dropping and maintain your altitude during a turn, advance the throttle slightly as you roll into the turn... Then, as you roll out of the turn return the throttle back to its original setting. Because of the additional up or down pitch force induced by Gyro Precession during a turn, the amount of throttle increase required will be slightly different for a left or right turn.

Tip of the Day: The new release (1.2.0) of this aircraft has been tuned to more closely match the actual climb rate and max altitude performance of the real JN-4 Jenny, which was very underpowered and slow. You might even think it's broken, but it isn't... it's just very realistic! To get the full authentic experience of what it was like to fly this aircraft, I recommend a flight from a small private airport called the LAZY W (86CO) near Loveland, Colorado. This is a relatively high-altitude airport at 5,200 ft. field elevation, with a 2500 ft. grass runway. This whole area is near the max ceiling altitude for this aircraft, so it will test your piloting skills. It is located near the foothills of the scenic Rocky Mountains and is dotted with many small scenic lakes, so it's well worth the effort. There are also many flat open fields to the East that you can land in. Take off from Runway 27 and fly due West toward the foothills for the most scenic experience. Be careful to stay between the hills as you slowly climb!

Tip of the Day: On final approach the nose and fuel gauge will obstruct your view of the runway, until you get closer to it. If your view is blocked, just lean over and look out the side like the real-world pilots did, by pressing [LEFT ARROW] or [RIGHT ARROW]. Another technique the original pilots used was an angled or arc final approach to the runway instead of a normal straight-in final. A crabbed or sideslip approach will also work well.

Tip of the Day: Since this aircraft has no attitude gauge, you must use another reference to determine your pitch attitude... The fuel gauge is very effective for this purpose, when it is centered on the horizon your pitch attitude is level.

This mod is off to a good start, but it still has quite a way to go. The airspeed, thrust angle, and takeoff/landing attitudes are great, and welcome changes indeed. The climb performance is what kills it for me. I was getting 800 ft/s even at 5000ft, which is nearly triple what it should be at sea level. It kept happily climbing at 300-400 ft/s through 16000 ft and would have gone even further had I kept going. I've never seen any literature suggesting a Jenny could get even half that high. In addition I had uncontrollable tailskid bouncing any time I was on the ground. Intently watching this space since this mod seems like it has great potential.

Tip of the Day: "Some assembly required" applied to anyone purchasing this aircraft from the CURTISS AEROPLANE AND MOTOR CORPORATION in 1918... It was delivered in several separate crates containing the fuselage, wings and tail sections, which then had to be assembled by the new owner following the instructions in the POH!

Tip of the Day: Since this aircraft has no flaps, you must learn to use a sideslip to increase your descent rate when the throttle has been reduced to idle. This is an essential piloting skill for flying a vintage aircraft like this one, and the Piper J-3 Cub.

Tip of the Day: Since this aircraft has no compass, you should use the VFR MAP [V] as a "handheld GPS" for navigation. You can also enable the COCKPIT HUD option under the ASSISTANCE/USER EXPERIENCE menu to see a full HSI.

But, to have the full authentic experience of flying this vintage aircraft, you should navigate the way the original pilots did, using only landmarks, rivers, lakes and roads... It was not uncommon for these pilots to even occasionally land in a farmers field and ask for directions!

Tip of the Day: This aircraft was designed to be flown from a grass or dirt strip and it has no brakes. To minimize your touchdown speed and ground roll after landing you should either make a 3-point full stall landing, or use the elevator to lower the tail soon after touchdown to provide maximum drag from the wings and tail skid.

Both mods make changes to the aircraft.cfg file and are most likely incompatible.

    ⦁ The Empty Weight has been increased to 1,460 lbs. and now includes 30 lbs. of engine oil to match the actual aircraft weight and balance specs.
    ⦁ The Flight Model Wing geometry and position have been tweaked slightly to more closely match the actual aircraft.
    ⦁ The wing Oswald Efficiency Factor has been decreased to reduce the climb rate and more closely match the actual aircraft specs.
    ⦁ The Horizontal Stabilizer Incidence angle has been reduced to -3.0 degrees to improve the takeoff, climb and cruise performance and stability.
    ⦁ The Horizontal and Vertical Stabilizer Positions have been moved 2 ft. further aft to more closely match the actual aircraft. This improves the pitch and yaw stability, and control responsiveness.
    ⦁ The Parasite Drag and Induced Drag have been increased to reduce the climb rate and more closely match the actual aircraft specs.
    ⦁ The Flaps have been disabled, since there are none on this aircraft.
    ⦁ The Engine Mechanical Efficiency has been increased to allow the engine to match the max RPM spec of 1400 RPM.

    The following changes are included in this mod:

    Version 1.0.0
    ⦁ The default Pilot Viewpoint position and zoom level have been updated to more closely match the actual viewpoint of a male pilot. This provides better forward visibility and improves the readability of the panel instruments. The default Landing and Close pilot views have also been updated.
    ⦁ The flight model wing geometry has been modified, and the total wing area has been significantly increased to include both the upper and lower wings, and match the actual aircraft specs.
    ⦁ The MAC position has been moved further aft to more closely match the actual aircraft.
    ⦁ The Empty Weight CG has been moved further forward. This now allows the default weight and balance to be within the CG limits.

    ⦁ The Engine/Prop Thrust Angle has been decreased from +6 degrees Up to -6 degrees Down, to more closely match the 3-D model and actual aircraft.
